Within my website prototype I have created many user-centred design decisions to make my users feel welcomed and create a friendly environment in which users can dwell in.
User-Centred Design Decisions:
First of all the text I have used within my website has a very inclusive tone, this is simply done by avoiding the use of stereotypical/discriminatory language, therefore avoiding any users feeling discomfort and leaving the website resulting in a lost user.
Another user-centred design is within most pages with the addition of the “Get Involved” button, this is is a user-centred design as it focuses on the users needs to create an account and get in touch with “PC” which then the user requirements can be fulfilled by “PC”, such as getting started with the first steps of a project the user may want to put into motion, overall this avoids the standard corporate needs and focuses on what the users requirements are to ultimately retain users.
Within my website prototype, I have included a settings page with accessibility options to make the website more accessible to people with visual impairments/disabilities. This was done by having options such as having larger text for people that may have trouble seeing small characters.
Another way the website will be accessible is to people with physical disabilities, this will be done by having the whole website accessible using just a keyboard, an accessibility option like this ensures that no matter who stumbles across my website, they will be able to explore it and all its content with ease, this results in a positive outlook by the public and gains user retention.
What’s Working/Needs Refining?
The prototype website is accessible by only using a keyboard and selecting different buttons using the Tab and Enter keys. Refining will need to be done to the text re-sizer as instead of having multiple duplicates of the website with different font sizes, a plug-in tool will be used to automatically re-size the characters saving a lot of time and even energy for sustainability purposes as less pages will need to be created.
